L.S.D is essential for 4WD vehicles, such as locking both wheels to generate traction and exiting the stack in a road condition where one of the tires slips.
However, in the conventional 4WD L.S.D, if priority is given to the lock rate, abnormal noise and vibration occur on asphalt, and overhaul is required in 1 to 3 years. On the other hand, lowering the lock rate had the problem that durability as well as running performance on the 4WD original off road fell.
The "HELE Super Lock L. S. D" appears as a revolutionary L. S. D. which performs ideal torque distribution only when it receives a driving force. Mainly used for racing, then added variations for commercial sports cars, high-class foreign cars, and one box, according to their characteristics. The "HELE Super Lock 4" was developed as L.S.D, which was optimally tuned for 4WD.
■ A spring is built into the pressure ring, and a load is always applied in the direction to close the pressure ring (the differential locks when the pressure ring opens). Therefore, if it does not exceed the set load (at the time of accelerator OFF · low load), it exhibits smooth cornering performance with the same function as the genuine open differential.
■ Press the accelerator and when the difference between the drive torques of the left and right wheels exceeds the set value (spring rate) (accelerator ON · high load), the pressure ring is opened and differentially locked, and the engine torque is evenly transmitted to the left and right axles.
■ With this function, the friction plate specific to LSD loses the "drag feeling" and the low-speed corner can run more smoothly and quietly. The process from becoming genuine open diff to diff lock, or vice versa, switches very smoothly, which makes the accelerator control much easier.
■ It is the number of diameters and number of friction plates built into the machine that affect the locking performance of mechanical LSD. With HELE Super Lock 4, we succeeded in reducing the diameter of the built-in side gear and pinion gear while maintaining high strength using our proprietary manufacturing method.
■ By making the side gear into a spline through shape, the number of plates can be incorporated 1.5 to 2 times or more (compared to our model, excluding some models) more than conventional products, and 100% diff lock has been realized with room.
■ Since extra slippage does not occur at the time of locking, there is no unpleasant chattering sound specific to LSD, and there is no sound or impact when completely locked. The driver can not detect the moment when it is locked so smoothly.
